INVESTING MISTAKES WHEN YOU START YOUR BUSINESS
She told me she “spent $100,000 with a marketing company for a website, a webinar and some marketing materials … with zero results”.
My jaw hit the floor! I was shocked speechless.
This is what happened to my new client (she’s a Wellness Coach) when she was first setting up her business and decided to invest a lot of money with a marketing company.
This is a classic investing mistake that many new entrepreneurs make when starting an online business.
There are many companies out there who are so eager to take your money and give you a cookie-cutter formula. While her website is certainly functional and well organized, it’s pretty basic and it doesn’t really showcase what’s unique about her or my client’s passion for her work.
BRO MARKETING
And it also seems like these companies take a predominantly “bro-marketing” approach to selling and marketing a business.
Women don’t connect with a heavy handed approach to business and sales. We value connection and community. The truth is women don’t like to be sold too…but we do like to shop.
If your business is serving women, then you have to approach your business with a genuine, heart-led approach.
Leave the “bro-marketing” at the door.
INVEST IN YOURSELF
By all means, invest in yourself and your business. But if you’re just starting out with your business please don’t spend a lot of money on a fancy and expensive website as the first thing you do.
Work with some clients, get a feel for “your people” and start off with a business model that moves you forward with some successes before investing in expensive technology. I’m not saying you don’t need a website ever … but there are so many more important things to start off with.
