Have you ever stopped for a second and asked yourself…what exactly am I selling?
Or better yet, what is it that my clients are buying when they hire me?
My answer may surprise you because if you’re in a service-based industry, as most of my clients are, it’s probably not what you think it is.
- If you’re a health coach … you might think wellness
- If you’re a stylist … you might think fashion
- If you’re a copywriter … you might think newsletters or blog posts
- If you’re a graphic designer … you might think web site design or graphics
- If you’re a relationship coach … you might think coaching
- If you’re a real estate agent … you might think it’s a property
I think it’s a little bit different.
I believe when your client hires you or your service, they’re actually buying confidence.
They are hiring you because they feel your service will give them the confidence they need to achieve what it is they want from their life or business.
Your clients want to feel confident…in a new skill, in a new step or direction or in a new layer of expertise they require.
It’s an interesting shift in perspective.
As a Life and Business Coach, I challenge my clients to think of the bigger picture of what they do and to play a bigger game. My clients trust me to hold the vision of their brand and guide them to success in a way that they couldn’t see for themselves. To help them with their confidence in their ideas, programs and services.
In my previous career as a Stylist, I discovered that the transformation my clients achieved had nothing to do with a cleaned out closet and a lot of new outfits. The transformation they achieved was feeling more confident.
Claim your Expertise with Confidence
As women, we often play small or don’t want to step up and claim our expertise, even when we’re really, really skilled at what we do. (By the way, that goes for women who are just starting out in their businesses as well as women who’ve been at it for awhile).
We offer great services and we pride ourselves on serving our clients very well but we don’t always show up in a big way and claim that.
Have you ever had a conversation with someone you were considering hiring, but you didn’t for some reason? They seemed to know their stuff, but you could feel that they held themselves back in some way (maybe this was very subtle or intuitive). So you decided to not go with them and hired someone else. Someone with a bit more confidence.
Now I don’t recommend that you go and write in your sales copy or your Facebook posts that you’re now selling confidence – it’s a much more subtle and intuitive shift than that.
Being a Confident Coach Matters
I want to encourage you to have a gentle mindset shift and think a bit bigger. I deeply believe that your work as a confident coach matters.
Create the belief in yourself that you’re positively impacting another person’s life in ways that go beyond just your service.
Your client will be able to go on and pay that confidence forward with their clients and families. And in turn, the world improves for everyone.
The next time you speak with a potential client, keep that impact in mind. Feel inspired to step up with confidence and play a bigger game in your business.
